His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, highlighted the deep unity among the people of the Arabian Gulf states, underscored by a shared history, expansive geography, interconnected lineages, and common goals. He emphasised the importance of strengthening ties and collaboration to maintain the Gulf's unity and support its progress toward prosperity. Sons of the Gulf are the true hope and central pillar of the nation, he said.
In his letter titled "A Message to the People of the Gulf," His Highness reflected on our most cherished dream, our joint history, vast geography, and the deep bonds of kinship we share. He mentioned the single sea that connects us and the vast desert that embraces us, appealing to the Arabian Gulf, its people, generations, intellectuals, and thinkers.
He acknowledged that by God's grace, we have transformed from simple towns into global cities, from modest fishing ports into hubs for international maritime trade, and from pearl diving into chasing the world’s largest investments. Despite embracing modernity and globalisation, we have proudly retained a strong identity, a unique culture, and authenticity.
"In just a few short years, the people of the Gulf have amassed wealth, built institutions, bridged continents, hosted major global events, and supplied the world with vital energy.
"More importantly, we have nurtured our people, instilled deep love for our lands, and fostered values of coexistence and tolerance for everyone who visits or joins us on our journey. We are the hope of the nation, its focal point, and the driving force behind its aspiration to reclaim its civilisation, strength, and glory.
"If nations are built on history, then history unites us, if defined by geography, our connection lies in the sea as well as our embrace by the desert; if tied through blood, our kinship is deep-rooted and intertwined; if driven by shared ambitions, our aspirations are noble and our objectives align as one.
"Brothers and sisters of the Gulf, let us not allow the divisiveness of the media to dismantle the bonds forged by geography, history, and shared bloodlines. Let us also resist the fragmentation that social media discourse can bring, threatening the unity built through our mutual development and interwoven economies. We must not permit narrow-minded agendas or malicious intentions to derail our collective aspirations for progress," the letter added.
It continued, "Our shared history cannot be rewritten, nor can centuries of neighbourly coexistence or the foundations of geographic realities be undone. The Gulf’s unity is not merely rooted in political agreements; it stems from generations who have lived along these shores, the mothers who prayed fervently for their sons’ safe return, and the fathers united by their faith upon this land. Bonds in the Gulf existed long before borders were defined, before nations took shape, before economic growth rose to prominence, our hearts were connected, our lineages embraced, and familial ties flourished."
"The Gulf is akin to a majestic tree with countless branches, an abundance of fruit, and a vast, sheltering canopy. Yet all of this stems from a single origin, a unified root system nourished by the same source. By God’s grace, we share not only the same foundation but also a singular destiny," it added.
It further said, "When the Gulf aligns its ambitions and harnesses its tremendous wealth and talent, dreams that once seemed unattainable become achievable. We have witnessed this transformative power within our own nation, the union of seven emirates achieving extraordinary feats through collective will and determination. Together, we build bridges connecting continents, house some of humanity’s greatest civilisations, serve as a reservoir of global wealth, pioneer advancements in science and technology, and tackle challenges with unmatched resolve."
"This vision for cooperation does not call for erasing individuality or homogenising our unique experiences. Rather, it is about drawing closer, coordinating efforts, strengthening institutions, overcoming differences, and fostering mutual understanding. The synergy of diverse experiences amplifies our collective strengths, creating a powerful civilisational momentum. True unity lies in embracing diversity and channelling it into vitality. Just as distinct rivers maintain their identities when merging into the sea yet contribute to a boundless ocean of opportunity and strength, so do we as people of the Gulf," the letter said.
"My optimism for the Gulf is unwavering. With its vast deserts and seas, bustling ports, ambitious initiatives, and driven generations, its horizons remain boundless for dreams to soar. Through shared purpose and determination, the Gulf’s prosperity will endure, unified in spirit and ambition. As proud Khaleejis (people of the Gulf), we move forward together— strong and steadfast," it added.
The letter concluded, "May God watch over the Gulf, granting it honour, success, and enduring glory. Sincerely, Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum."
