Abu Dhabi Police, in collaboration with the Monitoring and Control Centre, released actual footage of traffic accidents caused by drivers reversing their vehicles dangerously.
The initiative aims to raise driver awareness regarding the hazards of this behaviour and the accidents that may take place and threaten the safety of road users.
The Traffic and Patrols Directorate warned of the danger of reversing a vehicle, especially when crossing exits or turning lanes, stressing that sudden stopping and reversing on the roads might lead to confusion for drivers coming from behind and might cause dangerous collisions and human and material losses.
The directorate urged drivers to continue driving if they missed an exit—rather than attempting to reverse—and to use the next exit to reach their destination safely, noting that dangerous reversing would incur a fine of Dhs500 and four black points. Additionally, under Article 1, drivers driving in a manner that endangers the life, safety or security of oneself or others are slapped with a fine of Dhs2,000 and 23 black points while their vehicles will be impounded for 60 days.
