The UAE Customs, represented by the General Department of Ports Security under the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security, successfully intercepted an illicit attempt to smuggle a substantial quantity of crystal methamphetamine into the country.
This operation led to the seizure of 16.2 kilogrammes of crystal narcotics, expertly hidden within a vehicle tyre that was trying to enter the country via one of its numerous land border crossings.
This incident unfolded when customs inspectors, utilising sophisticated radiological scanning systems, identified irregularities in a vehicle as it traversed these checkpoints.
The detection of these anomalies prompted a comprehensive manual inspection conducted in coordination with the Customs Support and Security Department.
This department, renowned for its specialisation in narcotics detection, played a crucial role in uncovering the concealed drugs, showcasing the collaboration and expertise shared among the teams involved.
The successful interception of these narcotics underscores not only the acute vigilance and field proficiency of the customs inspectors but also highlights the effective deployment of cutting-edge technologies by the Authority.
These technologies significantly bolster the ability to detect illicit substances and prevent smuggling activities across various ports of entry, enhancing overall security measures.
Since the dawn of this year, the General Department of Ports Security has conducted an impressive 765 operations geared toward drug seizures. In total, these efforts have resulted in the confiscation of approximately 390 kilogrammes of narcotics and about 50,000 narcotic pills.
The Authority has applauded its inspectors for their adeptness and efficiency in performing their duties, while reiterating its steadfast dedication to advancing its inspection system.
This ongoing commitment is vital in ensuring society's protection from the threats posed by narcotics.
Moreover, it serves as a powerful deterrent against any attempts that might compromise state security, aligning with broader national initiatives focused on maintaining the security and safety of the community.
