UAE warns residents against fraudsters utilising 'deepfake' technology

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) has issued a warning about fraudsters utilising "deepfake" technology to craft videos, audio recordings, or images that seem credible, falsely appearing to be from the Ministry or its representatives.

These fake media are aimed at misleading people into disclosing their data or sending money. The Ministry provided essential guidelines for customers to check the authenticity of content and safeguard their information and finances from fraud: remain skeptical of videos or audio messages that seem genuine; always confirm requests or announcements via the Ministry's official channels; never share personal or banking details in reply to unverified communications; and ensure the legitimacy of links before engaging with them.

If customers have any reservations, they are urged not to follow through with the request but to reach out to the Ministry's call center to confirm the legitimacy of the message or the identity of the contact person.

The Ministry emphasised that although modern technologies can replicate voices and faces, confirming through official channels remains the most effective method to protect against fraud.
