Abu Dhabi court jails, deports duo for possessing psychotropic substances for consumption

Abu Dhabi Federal Supreme Court upheld an appeal ruling convicting two suspects and sentencing each to three months in jail, to be followed by deportation after serving the sentence, as they were caught consuming psychotropic substances.

According to the case files, the Public Prosecution referred the suspects and others to criminal trial on charges of belonging to an organised gang and possessing amphetamines with intent to traffic.

As per the case documents, the first suspect was consuming the narcotic substance “morphine” in cases other than those authorised by law, and subsequently he consumed psychotropic substances “Nordazepam - Oxazepam – Temazepam”, while the second and a third suspects consumed morphine.

The court of first instance sentenced the first and second to 3 months in jail for each for the charge of consumption, ordered the confiscation of seized items, and their deportation from the country after serving the sentence.

The Public Prosecution appealed the ruling regarding the first charge "being part of an organised gang" attributed to the suspects, while the Federal Court of Appeal accepted the appeal in form and rejected it in substance.
