Syrian President praises Sheikh Mohammed’s support for Syrian people at Arab Media Summit

Before beginning his keynote session at the 2026 Arab Media Summit, Syrian President Ahmed Al Sharaa reflected on the supportive stance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

He praised Sheikh Mohammed for his kindness and concern for the Syrian people and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for his gracious hospitality.

Al Sharaa said he was proud to be part of the Arab Media Summit, underscoring the crucial role of the media in effective communication. He emphasised the importance of journalists steering clear of politicisation and advocated accurate reporting that keeps pace with developments in society.

He acknowledged that Syria had endured challenging times due to unprecedented sanctions, which he said were comparable only to those imposed on North Korea.

Al Sharaa said Syria had transformed from a source of instability into a zone of stability, highlighting its emergence as a safe corridor and an essential component of global supply chains.

He also pointed to the connection between Jebel Ali and Tartus as a testament to the stability the country now enjoys.

The Syrian president affirmed Syria's independence in decision-making, emphasising that the country made its own decision to liberate Damascus. He described it as one of the most complex decisions undertaken amid a significant international presence in the region.

He said Syria was also dealing with the consequences of nearly six decades of devastation and 14 years of conflict, both of which continue to affect rebuilding efforts.

He highlighted that the country's approach is based on hard work and a commitment to serving its citizens.

Al Sharaa said Syria is also positioned for strong economic growth, with a focus on maintaining its social structure, promoting societal development and developing skills.

He added that the country is transitioning from a socialist framework to a free-market model driven by the private sector, a change that involves making decisions that may at times be surprising.
