Syria has changed from a source of instability to a zone of stability, says Al Sharaa

Before beginning his keynote session at the 2026 Arab Media Summit, Syrian President Ahmed Al Sharaa reflected on the supportive stance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
He praised Sheikh Mohammed for his kindness and concern for the Syrian people, expressing heartfelt gratitude for his gracious hospitality.
Al Sharaa expressed pride in being part of the Arab Media Summit, underscoring the crucial role of media in effective communication.
He emphasised the importance for journalists to steer clear of politicization, advocating for accurate reporting that keeps pace with societal developments.
He acknowledged that Syria had navigated challenging times due to unprecedented sanctions, which he likened only to those placed on North Korea.
Al Sharaa remarked that Syria has changed from a source of instability to a zone of stability, highlighting its emergence as a safe corridor and an essential component of global supply chains.
He also mentioned that the connection between Jebel Ali and Tartus was a testament to the stability the country now enjoys.
He affirmed Syria's independence in decision-making, emphasizing the country's autonomous choice to liberate Damascus.
He described this as one of the most complex decisions undertaken amidst significant international presence in the region.
He also indicated that Syria is dealing with the consequences of almost six decades of devastation and a 14-year conflict, both of which are affecting rebuilding initiatives.
He highlighted that the country's approach is based on hard work and a commitment to serving its citizens. Syria is also positioned for strong economic growth, aiming to maintain its social structure, promote societal development, and develop skills.
Additionally, he mentioned that the nation is transitioning from a socialist framework to a free-market model driven by the private sector, a change that involves making decisions that might be somewhat surprising.
