Abu Dhabi man deceives woman with fake promise to marry, seizes over Dhs48,000

Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court ordered a man to pay a woman Dhs48,700, in addition to fining him Dhs10,000, as compensation, after he deceived her with the promise of marriage and exploited her good intentions to seize her money in cash and through financial transfers, claiming he would return the amounts as soon as his circumstances improve and his banking transactions are completed.

In the details, a woman filed a lawsuit against a man requesting that he be ordered to pay her Dhs48,800, the debts owed to her, and to pay Dhs20,000 as compensation for the material and psychological damages she incurred due to his actions, as well as a delay interest of 5% annually on the awarded amounts from the date of the legal claim until full payment, besides fees and expenses of the lawsuit and attorney fees.

The complainant stated in her lawsuit that the appellee deceived her with the promise of marriage and exploited her good intentions to obtain amounts from her.

She added that he asked her to transfer Dhs6,800 to one of his friends, and that he acknowledged this debt in conversations between them via WhatsApp and Instagram, but he procrastinated in returning those amounts, which prompted her to file her lawsuit.

The court explained, after reviewing the conversations attached to the case file, that the complainant asked the appellee to return the amounts he took and he told her that he could pay her the amounts in installments but he did not do so.

The court then ordered him to pay her the amounts he seized, besides Dhs10,000 in compensation for the material and moral damages incurred.
