Girl kills younger sister over TikTok followers in Pakistan

A 15-year-old Pakistani girl was allegedly killed by her elder sister after an altercation between them over the issue of "stealing" followers on social media app TikTok in Gujranwala, Punjab province, Dawn News reported on Thursday.

Ladhe Wala Warraich police in Gujranwala city claimed to have arrested the suspect and also recovered the knife used in the killing.

Father of six daughters and a son, complainant Abdul Shakoor, a driver by profession, lodged a complaint with the police that some guests had visited his home on Tuesday (Sept.1) and he was busy with them at the ground floor when he heard cries from the upper floor. When he made it to the upper storey, he found Manahil in a pool of blood as she was stabbed with a kitchen knife by her 18-year-old daughter.

Manahil was rushed to a nearby hospital but she died due to excessive blood loss.

He said both the sisters were quarreling over the issue of some financial matters.

Police investigation and area people said both the sisters had been active on TikTok to get some monetary gains since the family was struggling economically.

The elder sister had blamed her younger sister for stealing her followers.

Police have registered a case against the suspect who was reportedly handed over to police by her father.

Senior police officer Hina Naik Bakht told ARY News that the family did not initially inform police about the incident. Authorities reportedly learned about the death after Rescue 1122 was called.

Police teams faced resistance from family members when they reached the location, as relatives were initially reluctant to pursue legal action.

Police said the accused later confessed during preliminary questioning and claimed that the dispute was linked to TikTok followers.

Last month, a 28-year-old content creator with more than 1.3 million followers was shot dead while her younger sister was seriously injured after the firing and a subsequent accident in Pakistan's Taxila.

According to the first information report (FIR), the deceased, Shamsu Bibi, also known as Ayesha Gilammana, left home in a vehicle along with her sister Asmiya Bibi and brother Nematullah.

While passing on the road, unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle targeted the vehicle and opened fire, resulting in Shamsu Bibi suffering multiple gunshot wounds while the vehicle lost control and crashed during the firing.

Gilammana died inside the vehicle while her younger sister was seriously injured, Pakistan-based another daily The Express Tribune reported.

In the FIR, the father of the deceased said that his daughter was active on TikTok for around three to four years and had around 1.3 million followers on her social media account.
