A company purchased a luxury Lamborghini car for Dhs1.86 million from two Asian nationals, before discovering that the vehicle was stolen and internationally wanted through Interpol.
The Dubai Criminal Court convicted them and sentenced them to two months in prison, fining them jointly the value of the crime proceeds.
Subsequently, the Commercial Court ordered them jointly to refund the full value of the car and compensate the company Dhs30,000.
According to the case file, the plaintiff company entered into a purchase agreement for the vehicle in May 2025, paying Dhs1.2 million in cash and Dhs660,000 via bank transfer.
The following month after the purchase, the company received a notification from the competent authorities to hand over the car, after it was revealed to be reported stolen internationally, where it was seized and included in the list of wanted vehicles.
The plaintiff company initiated criminal proceedings against the sellers, and the criminal case convicted them for selling a movable property not owned by them and selling it to the company, despite their confession that they did not own it, and that it was stolen and internationally wanted.
The Criminal Court sentenced them to two months in prison, fined them jointly Dhs1.86 million, the car's value, deported them from the country, and referred the civil case to the competent court.
The ruling became final and binding after the appeal was rejected and no challenge was filed with the Court of Cassation.
The company filed its lawsuit before the Dubai Commercial Court, demanding a refund of the car's value and compensation of Dhs500,000 for material and moral damages, in addition to legal interest.
The court affirmed that the final criminal judgment settled the matter that the car was stolen and not owned by the sellers, and they had no right to sell it. Consequently, the court adhered to the findings of the criminal judgment.
The court also concluded that the sales contract was void and confirmed the company's right to recover the amount it paid after it was proved that the sellers obtained Dhs1.86 million without a legitimate reason.
The court estimated the compensation for material damages at Dhs30,000, while rejecting compensation for moral damage as it was not proved.
