The Directorate General of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police has urged pedestrians to follow safe road-crossing practices and use designated pedestrian crossings, bridges and tunnels to protect themselves and other road users.
In an awareness message, the Directorate warned pedestrians against crossing roads randomly or from undesignated areas, stressing that such behaviour can increase the risk of accidents and endanger both pedestrians and motorists.
Pedestrians were also advised to comply with traffic signals and pedestrian lights when crossing roads. Using designated crossing points allows pedestrians to cross more safely while giving drivers a clear indication of where they may encounter people crossing.
Abu Dhabi Police also called on motorists to remain alert to pedestrian movement, particularly when approaching designated crossings. Drivers were urged to reduce their speed near pedestrian crossing areas and give pedestrians priority when they are crossing.
The Directorate emphasised that ensuring pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility. While pedestrians must use designated crossing points and follow traffic signals, motorists are required to exercise caution, maintain appropriate speeds and remain attentive to people crossing the road.
The awareness campaign forms part of Abu Dhabi Police's strategic priority of smart road security, which aims to enhance safety and security for pedestrians and other road users.
Police urged members of the public to adopt responsible road behaviour and follow traffic regulations to help prevent accidents and create safer roads across the emirate.
