The National Media Authority (NMA) has initiated legal proceedings against a resident for sharing offensive content about Emirati women on her social media account, in violation of the media content standards set out in the Media Regulation Law and its executive regulations.
In addition to the legal proceedings, the NMA has suspended the resident’s advertising permit for three months. The authority said it would not accept any content that disparages Emirati women, undermines their status or diminishes their contributions to the nation.
The NMA stressed the importance of responsible social media use and called on users to ensure that the content they publish complies with applicable media regulations and reflects the values of UAE society.
The authority also emphasised the need for social media users to uphold societal values and national identity when creating and sharing content online. The action highlights the NMA’s position on content that it considers offensive towards Emirati women and its commitment to enforcing the standards outlined in the country’s media regulations.
The NMA urged social media users to exercise responsibility in their online posts and to remain mindful of the standards governing media content in the UAE.
