The Toyota Building, a renowned landmark in Old Dubai situated along Sheikh Zayed Road, is nearing the end of an era that spans over fifty years as it prepares for complete evacuation ahead of demolition. Completed in 1974, this building represents a significant period of urban development in the emirate.
The evacuation process is almost complete, with many sections of the building nearly empty. Residents have been seen removing furniture and personal belongings from their apartments. Most areas now lack electricity, and signs of deterioration are evident throughout the facilities.
Building management has reported that approximately 95% of the tenants have already moved out, with only four apartments still occupied. The building is expected to be entirely vacant within a month as it gears up for the final stages before demolition.

Building management has announced the decision to demolish the structure after Dubai Municipality declined to undertake the necessary maintenance due to its current state. Rather than opting for renovation, the building is set to be evacuated in preparation for demolition. The management pointed out that the high population density within the building contributed to the urgency of this decision.
This building holds a special place in Dubai's architectural history. Built in 1974, it consists of 15 floors and became visually iconic after a massive Toyota advertisement was placed on its roof in 1981, which led to its fondly recognised name, "The Toyota Building."
For more than five decades, the building has been a significant landmark on Sheikh Zayed Road, bearing witness to the dramatic transformations that have redefined Dubai’s skyline—from a time before the rise of skyscrapers to its development into a crucial urban and commercial area in the city.
While the building is not officially named "Toyota," the rooftop billboard has embedded it in the memories of many Dubai residents, especially because of its striking presence on a major street in the emirate. As the last residents prepare to leave, this iconic structure is witnessing its final days as a home. Families are gradually moving out, securing their apartments for the last time as they get ready for a full evacuation and the start of demolition processes for this notable part of Dubai's cityscape.
