Ministry's 'A Day Without Accidents' initiative to reduce 4 black points for motorists on first academic day

The Ministry of Interior (MoI), through the Federal Traffic Council and in collaboration with all national police units, has introduced its annual traffic initiative, "A Day Without Accidents," aligning with the beginning of the academic year on Aug.31.

This initiative is designed to boost awareness about road safety and the importance of prevention and protection for every road user, while also encouraging compliance with traffic laws across all sectors of society. It further aims to recognise and reward those who diligently follow traffic regulations.

Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police and leader of the "A Day Without Accidents" campaign, highlighted that the initiative aligns with the Ministry of Interior's broader strategy to improve road safety and security. Achieving optimal traffic safety is a collective duty that necessitates the active participation of drivers, pedestrians, and all road users in fostering a safer and accident-free environment.

Registration for the initiative will commence on August 17, 2026, through a link that will be available on the Ministry of Interior's social media account, @MOIUAE. He encouraged road users to register, sign the initiative's pledge, and comply with its terms and conditions.

The initiative rewards drivers who comply with a four-point deduction, in line with the approved terms. He explained that to benefit from this deduction, individuals must register, sign the pledge, and meet all the initiative’s requirements.

The head of the "A Day Without Accidents" initiative stressed the need for drivers and parents to follow traffic laws and regulations, especially with the start of the school year leading to increased traffic around schools. He urged everyone to be patient, responsible, and cooperative, helping create a safer traffic environment for students, parents, and all road users.

He asserted that the initiative is dedicated to enhancing drivers' awareness of critical traffic safety behaviors and requirements. This includes ensuring that vehicles are in good condition before starting a journey, observing speed limits—particularly on streets and near schools—avoiding distractions like mobile phone use while driving, staying in designated lanes, maintaining a safe distance between vehicles, yielding to pedestrians at crossings, and following other rules to help reduce accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.

Brigadier General Juma Bin Suwaidan praised the excellent commitment and traffic awareness shown by road users in past years. He recognised the positive involvement of drivers and community members with the initiative and their adherence to traffic regulations.

He highlighted that this commitment represents an increasing awareness of social responsibility and marks the success of efforts aimed at promoting safe driving habits. He shared his optimism about maintaining this positive momentum and achieving even greater results in this year's edition.

Brigadier Juma bin Suwaidan urged all road users to make August 31st a showcase of commitment and responsible driving. He emphasised that the success of "A Day Without Accidents" extends beyond just one day, focusing instead on the positive behaviors nurtured by the initiative. These behaviors should evolve into a daily culture and practice, ultimately helping protect lives and enhance road safety for everyone.
