VIDEO: Burj Khalifa lights up in Indian tricolour to mark 80th Independence Day

Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa was illuminated in the colours of the Indian flag on Saturday night to mark India’s 80th Independence Day, drawing large crowds of Indian expatriates, residents and visitors.

The world’s tallest building lit up in saffron, white and green as the UAE joined Indians around the world in celebrating the milestone national occasion and highlighting the enduring ties between India and the UAE.

Large crowds gathered around the landmark to witness the special light display, with spectators cheering and raising patriotic slogans in celebration of India’s Independence Day.

The Indian Consulate in Dubai said on X, “As India celebrates its 80th Independence Day, the magnificent Burj Khalifa lights up in the vibrant hues of the Tiranga—a spectacular tribute to India’s journey, pride and spirit. A celebration of the enduring India–UAE friendship and the bonds that bring our two nations closer.”

Ambassador of India to the UAE, Dr. Deepak Mittal, also extended his greetings to the Indian community in the UAE and expressed gratitude to the UAE leadership for its continued support.

He said, “On the auspicious occasion of the 80th Independence Day of India, I extend my heartiest greetings to the Indians in the UAE. I also avail of this opportunity to express our gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, the Rulers of all the Emirates, the members of the Royal families, the Government of the UAE for their continued patronage of the Indian community in the country and looking after their interests and well-being as one of their own.”

The Burj Khalifa’s tricolour display has become a prominent symbol of the close people-to-people ties between India and the UAE, with the landmark regularly lighting up on major Indian national occasions.
