Sharjah launches smart screens for real-time bus arrival information

Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has launched a project for real-time bus arrival information screens as part of its efforts to develop public transport services and provide passengers with accurate and up-to-date information about bus movements and arrival times, thereby enhancing ease of movement and improving the experience of public transport users. 

The project was launched as part of SRTA’s orientation towards developing quality and smart projects that respond to the needs of customers and employ modern technologies to improve the efficiency of public transport services, enhance service quality levels and keep pace with the emirate’s orientations towards more sustainable and efficient transport solutions. 

Real-time information 

The project aims to provide bus users with reliable real-time information about bus arrival times with the screens displaying the remaining time until the bus arrives, down to the minutes, thereby helping passengers plan their journeys and reduce waiting times, said Mohammed Obaid Al Suwaidi, a transport systems analyst at SRTA. 

In addition to arrival information, the screens will also provide a range of alerts and service updates, allowing passengers to stay informed and enhancing the clarity of the information available to them while using the public transport system, he added. 

The solar-powered screens reflect SRTA’s orientation towards integrating digital solutions with eco-friendly technologies, he said, noting that they would be installed in front of the air-conditioned, advanced bus stops and bus stations so that information is available to passengers at their waiting locations.

The project reflects SRTA’s commitment to expanding smart and sustainable solutions in public transport services by providing real-time information to help users make decisions more easily and clearly and enhance the overall mobility experience in the emirate.
