Sharjah Police arrest truck driver for obscuring number plate

Sharjah Police apprehended a truck driver who deliberately obscured his truck’s number plate using mud in an attempt to hide its data and evade traffic monitoring and control systems.

This came as part of Sharjah Police’s ongoing efforts to control behaviours and violations that could affect the security and safety of road users.

The truck driver was apprehended thanks to an advanced traffic surveillance system that covered the geographic scope of the Emirate of Sharjah and relied on surveillance cameras, monitoring systems and modern digital technologies.

The system contributed to monitoring and tracking the truck so that the specialised teams began field search and follow-up procedures, leading to the truck to be identified and its driver to be arrested.

Investigations revealed that the driver deliberately concealed the number plate in an attempt to enter a number of streets where trucks were prohibited, in clear violation of the applicable traffic regulations.

The necessary measures were taken to apprehend the vehicle and the driver and deal with the violations in accordance with the applicable legal procedures.

Sharjah Police affirmed that attempts to blur number plates, hide their data or circumvent traffic control systems would not prevent violators from being monitored and reached in light of the advanced regulatory system, stressing that they would continue to monitor all roads of the emirate and deal firmly with behaviours that threaten traffic safety.

They called on drivers, especially drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to abide by the lanes, times and roads allocated to them and by traffic regulations and laws in order to reduce violations and accidents, raise the level of traffic safety and protect all road users.
