The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to pay Dhs40,000 in compensation to an employee after finding him responsible for causing material and moral harm during an incident at the workplace.
According to case documents, the employee filed a lawsuit against the defendant, seeking Dhs100,000 in compensation for the material and moral damages he claimed to have suffered. He also sought reimbursement for the charges and expenses incurred during the case, in addition to lawyer’s fees.
The plaintiff told the court that the incident occurred while he was performing his duties. He alleged that the defendant threw a bottle of water at him, spat on him and publicly insulted him. The employee argued that the defendant’s actions caused him significant psychological and moral distress, as well as material harm.
After reviewing the case documents and evidence presented before it, the court established that the defendant had committed an error that caused harm to the plaintiff.
The court therefore considered the compensation warranted for the moral damages suffered by the employee and assessed it at Dhs40,000. It accordingly ordered the defendant to pay the amount to the plaintiff.
The ruling highlights the legal consequences of abusive or insulting behaviour that causes harm to others, particularly when such conduct occurs while an employee is carrying out official duties. The court’s decision was based on the proven error and the resulting harm established in the case.
