Sharjah provides over 1.25 billion gallons of water to farms during first half of 2026

As part of its commitment to sustainability and enhancing water efficiency to meet sustainable development needs, Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has provided more than 1.25 billion gallons of water, aiming at supporting strategic government projects and food security initiatives in the emirate.

Engineer Abdurrahman Bukhalaf, Director of the Water Plants and Desalination Department at SEWA, confirmed that during the first half of 2026, it supplied the Mleiha wheat and dairy farms, the poultry farm, Sharjah Safari, and government projects with more than 1.25 billion gallons of water.

Bukhalaf explained that the supplies included 1,029,990,940 gallons of water for the wheat farms, 151,429,300 gallons for the dairy farm, and 10,716,640 gallons for the poultry farm, aiming to secure sustainable water supplies to support local production and contribute to enhancing the food security system in the Emirate of Sharjah.

He also explained that SEWA is keen on implementing the vision and directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to support food security projects and eco-tourism destinations by ensuring the sustainability of water resources for these vital projects which place Sharjah on the map of global excellence in agricultural and livestock production and tourism.

He added that the Authority is committed to providing innovative and sustainable solutions and to applying the latest technologies and practices in water management to ensure a prosperous and sustainable agricultural future.

Providing advanced water infrastructure to support strategic food security projects ensures crop irrigation and meets livestock needs according to the highest standards of quality and sustainability, to support food self-sufficiency, Bukhalaf.

SEWA also provided 34,072,720 gallons of water to the Sharjah Safari project, which embodies the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in protecting the environment and caring for natural life, and is considered one of the leading projects which enhance eco-tourism in the emirate and provide a unique experience for visitors, added Engineer Abdurrahman Bukhalaf.
