Al Ain court tells man to pay Dhs50,000 compensation to a woman for fraud and insults

Al Ain Court of Civil, Commercial and Administrative Cases ordered a man to pay Dhs50,000 in compensation to a woman, after he contacted her via a social media platform and lured her by sending an electronic link claiming it was for a phone installment plan.

Once she accessed the link, he reportedly seized her account data and conducted a purchase transaction, and when she demanded her money back, he threatened her and insulted her with offensive words.

In the details, a woman filed a lawsuit against a man, requesting a ruling ordering him to return the amount of Dhs11,676 to her with a legal interest of 12% from the date of the judicial claim until full payment, in addition to ordering him to pay Dhs50,000 as compensation for the moral and psychological damages she incurred, while holding him responsible for fees and expenses.

The plaintiff stated that the appellee contacted her via a social media platform and sent her an electronic link claiming it was for a phone installment plan and once she accessed it, he seized her account data and conducted a purchase transaction for the amount of Dhs11,676 which was deducted from her account.

She added that when she demanded her money back, he threatened and insulted her with offensive words, so she reported him to the competent authorities.

He was allegedly convicted by a criminal judgment for the crimes of threat and defamation and was fined, and the criminal judgment has become final.

The court explained that the appellee's threat to the complainant and defaming her with phrases affecting her dignity and honour caused her moral and psychological harm.

The court then ordered the appellee to return the plaintiff the amount he seized plus a compensation of Dhs50,000 for the harm she incurred.
