VIDEO: Abu Dhabi Police explain dangers of vehicles stopping in middle of road

Abu Dhabi Police, in co-operation with the Monitoring and Control Centre, broadcast an awareness video documenting a number of traffic accidents resulting from vehicles stopping in the middle of the road and the subsequent accidents caused by drivers’ inattention and distraction while traffic was stopped.

According to Abu Dhabi Police’s Traffic and Patrols Directorate, stopping in the middle of the road, whether due to a vehicle tyre malfunction or any emergency, poses a serious danger to road users, calling on drivers to continue driving to the nearest exit or safe place whenever possible in order to preserve their safety and the safety of others.

It explained that if the vehicle could be moved, the Command and Control Centre must be immediately contacted on 999 to request support, adding that this would contribute to quickly dealing with the situation, reducing the occurrence of serious and dangerous accidents and maintaining the traffic flow.

The directorate urged motorists to maintain full concentration while driving, avoid distractions and be prepared to deal with any traffic emergency, stressing that attention and vigilance contribute to avoiding surprises on the road and making the right decision at the right time.
