107-year-old Emirati man Abdullah Al Kaabi passes away in Sharjah

Emirati centenarian Abdullah Dhuha Askar Al Kaabi, who was born in Filli, Sharjah, in 1919, has passed away at the age of 107 after a remarkable life spanning more than a century.

Al Kaabi witnessed some of the most significant chapters in the UAE’s history, including the country’s formation and the decades of transformation and development that followed. His long journey reflected the experiences of generations who lived through the region’s transition from a traditional way of life to a modern nation.

He passed away following a terminal illness that affected him for around six years. Throughout his life, Al Kaabi was remembered by family, friends and members of his community for his generosity, humility, strong moral values and kindness towards others.

His son Mohammed said that although his father did not receive formal education, he possessed great wisdom, intelligence and sharp judgment. He was known for his ability to resolve disputes, bring people together, reconcile couples and help settle differences within the community.

“My father worked in the desert and also had his own business. He had a very strong memory and could recall events from 70 or 80 years ago. He also remembered the names of all his 10 grandchildren,” Mohammed said.

He added that his father’s life was marked by discipline and simplicity. Al Kaabi maintained good health for most of his life, followed a healthy lifestyle, walked regularly and never drove a car. His family said he remained active and independent until he was diagnosed with cancer six years ago.

Mohammed also spoke about his father’s strong commitment to prayer, saying that he never neglected his religious duties. In his final days, while receiving medical care in the intensive care unit at Shakhbout Hospital, Al Kaabi asked his son to pray on his behalf.

Al Kaabi leaves behind two sons, Salem and Mohammed. His family said his legacy will live on through the values he embodied — wisdom, compassion, patience and dedication to family and community.

His passing marks the end of a life that connected generations and preserved memories of a changing UAE across more than 100 years.
