A 27-year-old Keralite died after a gas cylinder explosion at a car showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai on Monday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Shijin Paul, a native of Kottarakkara in Kollam, Kerala. Shijin, who had arrived in Dubai eight months ago, sustained critical injuries in the explosion and was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Five other people were injured in the incident and received emergency medical treatment, authorities confirmed.
Dubai Civil Defence teams immediately responded to reports of the explosion and reached the showroom to carry out rescue and safety operations. Emergency personnel secured the site, contained the situation and ensured the safety of nearby areas.
Dubai Media Office said police, ambulance services and Civil Defence teams coordinated their efforts during the response operation. The injured were provided with the required medical care and support, while the affected area was secured.
Authorities confirmed that all emergency response operations were completed by nightfall and the situation was brought under control.
The incident has left Shijin’s family and the Malayali community in Dubai mourning his sudden death. Further details regarding his family and the arrangements following his death are awaited.
