The National Media Authority (NMA) has announced that it has taken legal action against two individuals for violating the provisions of the Federal-Decree Law on the Regulation of Media and its executive regulations, as well as the approved media content standards in the UAE.
The action follows a live broadcast on a social media platform that featured offensive content deemed inconsistent with the country’s established media regulations and ethical standards. The NMA said the broadcast violated requirements related to respect for the UAE’s cultural and civilisational heritage, national identity, and the values and principles upheld by society.
The authority stressed that media freedom carries responsibility and that all individuals producing or sharing content through digital platforms must adhere to the laws and regulations governing media activity in the country. It reaffirmed that content published through social media channels falls within the scope of media oversight when it involves public communication and advertising activities.
As part of the measures taken, the NMA decided to suspend the advertiser permit granted to one of the individuals involved for a period of three months. The decision reflects the authority’s commitment to ensuring that advertising and media practices comply with professional standards and respect the UAE’s social and cultural values.
The NMA reiterated that it will continue monitoring media content across various platforms and will take necessary legal measures against any violations. It urged content creators, advertisers, and media practitioners to exercise responsibility and ensure that their publications align with the country’s laws, ethical guidelines, and the principles of respect and tolerance that define UAE society.
The authority also highlighted the importance of maintaining a responsible digital environment, where freedom of expression is balanced with respect for public values, cultural traditions, and community standards.
