Man rents Ferrari for 77 days, fails to pay rent, fined over Dhs200,000

The Dubai Civil Court ordered a man from Eastern Europe to pay more than Dhs208,673 to a luxury car rental company plus 5 per cent legal interest until full payment after he had rented a Ferrari for 77 days but failed to pay the rental amount, traffic fines and Salik tollgate fees.

Earlier, the company filed a lawsuit in which it stated that it had entered into a contract with the defendant to rent a Ferrari for 77 days between July 7 to September 22, 2025 for a daily fee of Dhs2,782 and a total contractual value of over Dhs214,000. 

The defendant still owes Dhs207,000 of the rental, Dhs1,440 in traffic violations he committed during the rental period and Salik tollgate fees, bringing the total debt to Dhs208,673, the company said. 

The company added that it tried to resolve the rental issue amicably and filed a dispute before the Centre for the Amicable Settlement of Disputes, but the dispute was referred to the competent court after no settlement could be reached. 

Based on this, the company filed a lawsuit in which it requested the court to obligate the defendant to pay the due amount and the legal interest. 

The company submitted to the court the lease agreement, the contract authenticated by the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, a statement of account showing the amounts paid and remaining, copies of traffic violations and receipts, Salik gate crossing report and the decision to refer the dispute to the court. 

As the defendant failed to appear at the court hearings despite being legally notified, the court considered the judgment as if rendered in his presence. 

The court affirmed that the lease agreement bore the defendant’s signature but he did not appear to challenge or deny its contents, nor did he provide any evidence to prove his fulfilment of his financial obligations. 

Based on this, the agreement is binding upon the defendant and he is obligated to fulfil its stipulations, the court added. 

The court ruled that the defendant pay Dhs208,673 to the company plus legal interest of 5 per cent from the date of the lawsuit until full payment and the incurred charges, expenses and lawyer’s fees.
