The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) noted that August acts as a continuation of July, maintaining high temperatures as the country remains influenced by the Indian monsoon low. Additionally, thermal lows from the southwest contribute to significant temperature increases, especially due to the presence of eastern mountains. The intense daytime heat results in the formation of cumulus clouds that often lead to rainfall across certain inland areas. In the first half of the month, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) extends its influence over parts of the country, sometimes bringing rain through the development of cumulonimbus clouds.
He mentioned that the cycle of land and sea breezes plays a crucial role this month, with southeasterly winds prevailing at night and in the early hours, while northerly winds take over during the daytime. Occasionally, the area experiences active southerly winds in the morning, which can stir up dust. Northwesterly winds also show some activity at times. Humidity levels rise slightly compared to July, especially in the second half of the month, averaging around 47% relative humidity, typically feeling more pronounced in the mornings and evenings.
The NCM's August climate report outlined its analysis of climate statistics and historical temperature records. According to the findings, the average temperatures fall between 34.7˚C and 36.5˚C, with average maximum temperatures ranging between 40.9˚C and 43.2°C and average minimum temperatures between 29.3˚C and 31°C. The record for the highest temperature, 51.8°C, was documented in Sweihan in 2025, while the coldest temperature, 16.1°C, was observed at Jabal Mebrah in 2013.
The average wind speed is approximately 12 km/h, with the strongest recorded gusty winds reaching 127.8 km/h in Al-Heir in 2023.
Regarding humidity, the average maximum relative humidity typically may fall between 63% and 80%, while the minimum averages range from 17% to 34%. The year 2018 saw the highest occurrence of fog in recent times, with 15 foggy days and an additional day of light fog.
In terms of rainfall, the greatest amount recorded for this month was 100.4 mm in Hamim back in 2013.
