Sharjah announces partial closure of Sheikh Saqr Street until Oct.1 for drainage work

Sharjah Department of Public Works (DPW) announced the implementation of a partial closure of Sheikh Saqr Bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street for 74 days, starting from July 20, 2026 (Monday) at 9pm until Oct. 1, 2026 (Thursday).

This came as part of the work of the Middle Line Project for rainwater and groundwater drainage.

The closure would include the section extending from Sheikh Rashid Bin Saqr Al Qasimi intersection towards Al Wahda Street intersection in Al Ghubaiba area, according to the approved traffic plan, DPW said, noting that an alternative route would be provided to ensure continuous traffic flow and reduce the impact of the works on road users.

The project came as part of its efforts to develop infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of rainwater and groundwater drainage networks with a view to boosting road readiness, improving traffic safety levels and sustaining service facilities in the emirate, DPW added.

DPW urged road users to abide by traffic diversions and directional signs placed at the work site, plan their journeys in advance and co-operate with the concerned authorities to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of everyone throughout the project's implementation period.
