The Anti-Fraud Centre at the General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police (CID) warned against fraudulent advertisements and messages promoting labour, residency or visit visas through social media platforms or messaging applications, using names of unlicensed companies or offices or impersonating official bodies, in an attempt to lure victims and seize their money.
The Centre, as part of the ongoing awareness campaign "Be Fraud Aware," stressed the importance of completing all visa issuance transactions through the competent authorities or legally authorised offices, and not dealing with intermediaries or untrusted entities, while emphasising the need to verify the authenticity of any offers or procedures related to visas through official channels only.
Awareness and verifying the source of the service are the first line of defence in preventing fraud crimes, the Centre added, calling on community members to exercise caution and not be lured by misleading promises which promote providing visas or jobs through illegal methods.
The Centre also called on the public to immediately report any fraud crime or attempted fraud via the Dubai Police smart application, or through the eCrime platform dedicated to receiving reports of electronic crimes, or by calling the number 901.
