Government of Sharjah’s Department of Islamic Affairs (SIA) inaugurated Al Muhtadeen Mosque in Al-Qutaina 1 area of Mahdhab suburb, Sharjah City, as part of its tireless efforts to enhance the religious infrastructure and keep pace with the urban development witnessed across the emirate.
The mosque came in line with the vision of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in building houses of God and providing a spiritual atmosphere for members of society to perform their rituals with ease and tranquility within the modern urban expansion in the emirate.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Issa Saif bin Hanzel, Member of Sharjah Executive Council and Chairman of SIA, the donor and a number of SIA departmental directors and officials and residents of the area.
The attendees performed Dhuhr prayer in the mosque and then toured its facilities and learned about its architectural and service components.
The mosque was built on a plot of land measuring 2,698 square meters, with a built-up area of 2,632.4 square meters. It can accommodate approximately 1,000 worshippers, with 450 inside the mosque, 500 in the outer courtyard and 50 in the women’s prayer area. The mosque also includes comprehensive service facilities such as ablution areas, restrooms, imam’s residence and parking lots.
The mosque is distinguished by its modern Islamic architectural design, with a central dome that rises above the mosque, while its minaret rises to 30 meters, reflecting the architectural identity that Sharjah’s mosques are distinguished for.
It was built according to the highest technical and engineering specifications approved in the construction of mosques, taking into account the standards of quality and sustainability and providing an integrated environment that meets the needs of worshippers.
His Excellency Dr. Issa Saif bin Hanzal affirmed that the opening of Al-Muhtadeen Mosque comes as an extension of the department’s plan to keep pace with the urban expansion witnessed by the Muhadhab suburb, which is one of the newest residential suburbs in the Emirate of Sharjah and is witnessing rapid urban growth. He pointed out that
Al Muhtadeen Mosque is the third mosque to be opened in the suburb since the beginning of this year, in a step that reflects SIA’s keenness to anticipate the needs of new residential neighborhoods for houses of worship concurrently with the development of residential projects, Bin Hanzel said.
The mosque will serve a wide segment of the residents of Mahdhab suburb, providing them with a spiritual atmosphere for performing prayers and acts of worship, not to mention its mission of spreading religious values through Friday sermons, lessons and Quran memorization circles, thus contributing to raising a generation connected to the houses of God, he added.
