The Women and Children Protection Department at the General Department of Human Rights in Dubai Police, stressed the importance of direct and continuous supervision of children, while they are near swimming pools or beaches, during the summer vacation emphasising that the absence of supervision even for moments could result in tragic drowning accidents.
The department called on parents not to leave children alone inside or near swimming pools or beaches, and not to rely on the presence of lifeguards or the use of flotation devices alone, as a substitute for direct supervision, with the necessity of choosing safe swimming areas, and adhering to instructions and warning signs.
Children may drown silently within seconds, without those around them being able to notice it, which requires an adult to stay near them, throughout their being in water, the Department added, stressing that prevention always begins with awareness and commitment to safety procedures.
