Iran attacks on Gulf states show inability to commit to de-escalation, says Gargash

Dr Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, has said that Iran's recent attacks on commercial shipping and repeated aggression against Gulf countries demonstrate that Tehran has failed to commit to de-escalation and lasting regional stability.

In a statement, Dr Gargash said the latest developments underscore the need for Iran to abandon confrontation and embrace a path of peace and stability in the region.

"Iran's attacks on Qatari and Saudi commercial tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, and the repeated aggression against our sisterly Bahrain and Kuwait, are a clear indicator that Tehran remains incapable of committing to the requirements of de-escalation and turning the page on war.

The Gulf Arab states cannot remain a target for Iran's wavering between the logic of escalation and the path of rationality, stability, and peace."

His remarks come amid heightened regional tensions following a series of incidents affecting maritime security and Gulf countries, with regional leaders continuing to call for restraint, dialogue and respect for international law.

The UAE has consistently stressed the importance of preserving regional security and safeguarding freedom of navigation, while advocating diplomatic solutions that contribute to stability, prosperity and peaceful coexistence across the Gulf.
