Through an awareness video featuring footage of real traffic accidents, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of the Central Operations Sector urged motorists to avoid distractions while driving, especially when traffic is slow or stopped and to remain focused on the road to prevent accidents caused by sudden stops.
The video was released as part of the "Your Comments" awareness initiative in co-operation with the Monitoring and Control Centre.
The directorate emphasised that using a mobile phone while driving, whether for browsing the internet or social media, making calls, taking photos or any other distracting activities, is a major cause of serious traffic accidents, calling on them to abide by safe driving practices to protect lives and property.
Motorists caught for any form of distraction while driving would be fined Dhs800 and would get four black points, it added.
