Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) announced the expansion of its ‘Bus On-Demand’ service, which it launched in June 2025, as part of its efforts to promote a smart and integrated transport system that supports the objectives of the ‘Year of the Family,’ by providing flexible and safe transportation solutions.
The service enables on-demand transportation in underserved areas, which contributes to connecting neighborhoods and reducing congestion and waiting times over and above enabling users to track the bus, which enhances operational efficiency and improves the customer experience.
Since its launch, the service has achieved tangible operational results, having carried out approximately 2,664 trips to serve 2,758 passengers until the end of March 2026, with a growth of 24 per cent in the number of users during the first quarter of the year, reflecting the increasing demand and customer confidence.
The service is managed through the smart app ‘Bus On Demand Sharjah’, which allows for easy booking of trips and calculation of the route and arrival time instantly, based on the analysis of operational data to continuously improve performance and raise efficiency.
The service currently covers the Muwaileh Commercial and Aljada areas and has been expanded to include University City, Al Juraina and Al Nouf, which enhances connectivity between key areas in the emirate.
The service targets all segments of society including employees and students by providing an easy-to-use service against a unified fare of Dhs8 with a discount of 25 per cent for accompanying passengers in support of its adoption as a daily transportation option.
The expansion of the ‘Bus on Demand’ service is a direct translation of SRTA’s orientations towards developing a smart and sustainable public transport system, said Eng. Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of SRTA.
The service contributes to providing flexible transportation solutions that support family stability and meet their daily needs in line with the objectives of the “Year of the Family” in promoting social cohesion and quality of life in the emirate, he added.
SRTA is moving forward in adopting the latest technical solutions that enhance the efficiency of the transportation system, support traffic flow and provide a safe and comfortable transportation experience that meets the aspirations of society, he said.
Meanwhile, Abdulaziz Mohammed Rashid Al Jarwan, Director of Transport Affairs at SRTA, explained that the service supported the integration of the transportation system in the emirate, especially in enabling customers to reach areas not covered by traditional bus routes, and eased their transfer to public transport stations to complete their journeys.
As part of the Year of the Family objectives, SRTA is keen on developing flexible public transportation services to ease the movement of family members between all daily destinations including educational institutions, workplaces and service centres, in a way that enhances the quality of life and provides a smoother and more comfortable transportation experience, he added.
SRTA reiterated its commitment to continuing to develop and expand the service in the future by studying customer needs, analyzing operational data and creating innovative solutions that support smart transportation and enhance its sustainability.
Based on this, SRTA called on those wishing to benefit from the service to download the smart app and book their trips easily to ensure a flexible and safe transportation experience.
