Since the beginning of 2026 until now, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised a number of events to clean the reserve beach and plant mangrove trees, where 700 mangrove trees have been planted, with the participation of 254 volunteers, who recorded 508 hours of voluntary work.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, said: "Based on our social responsibility, we are committed to protecting the environment and biodiversity and supporting nature-based solutions to combat climate change and achieve carbon neutrality."
He added: Our initiatives to plant more mangrove trees in cooperation with government and private entities serve as a model for the role of integrated community efforts to support environmental sustainability and achieve the UAE's goal of planting 100 million mangrove trees by 2030.
"We continue our efforts to expand green spaces in Dubai, enhance the quality of life, and involve all members of society in efforts to preserve precious natural resources," Al Tayer added.
Over 250 volunteers record 508 hours of voluntary work.
From 2023 until the end of May 2026, the number of mangrove trees planted by DEWA in the reserve amounted to 14,650 mangrove trees.
During the reserve beach clean-up events, DEWA also collected more than 3,546 kilogrammes of waste, mostly plastic materials, with the participation of approximately 2,154 volunteers from DEWA employees and their families, employees of some DEWA subsidiaries, in addition to a group of students from the DEWA Academy.
Participants in the events praised DEWA's efforts to raise awareness about the importance of afforestation, and to encourage the adoption of applicable and developable solutions to improve air quality and preserve aquatic and terrestrial habitats and coastal ecosystems in Dubai.
