Sharjah Police revealed that they seized drugs worth around Dhs392.8 million during the period between 2023 and 2025 as part of their ongoing efforts to protect society and enhance security and stability.
During a review of their operations, they revealed that they managed to seize 11,551,206 tablets of psychotropic substances and 3,386,901 grammes of narcotics and caught 4,757 defendants in drug cases over the past three years, which reflected the extent of the security efforts made in monitoring and prosecuting those involved in drug trafficking, promotion and abuse.
Lieutenant General Abdullah Mubarak Bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, affirmed that thanks to the vision of its wise leadership and its firm resolve, the UAE established an advanced model in protecting society from the scourge of drugs through an integrated national system that combined deterrent legislation, prevention, awareness and community partnership.
Confronting the scourge of drugs is a shared national and societal responsibility that requires concerted efforts from institutions, families and individuals, promotion of a culture of awareness and prevention and consolidation of partnerships with all entities concerned, he said.
Sharjah Police, through the Directorate of Drug Prevention and Control, developed an integrated work system and a flexible organisational structure that kept pace with security challenges and future changes, supported by the latest technologies and qualified national personnel, he added.
This came during the “Protecting the Individual, Preserving Society” forum organised by Sharjah Police to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The forum was attended by Sheikh Majid Bin Sultan Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of Districts Affairs Department, Judge Dr. Mohammed Obaid Al Kaabi, Chairman of Sharjah Judicial Department, Counselor Dr. Saeed Al Ketbi, Chairman of Sharjah Public Prosecution, Dr. Abdulaziz Saeed Bin Butti Al Muhairi, Chairman of Sharjah Health Authority, Sultan Mohammed Bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of Department of Municipal Affairs and Brigadier General Mohammed Salem Al Ketbi, Commander of Military Police at the Ministry of Defence.
It was also attended by a number of directors general, senior officers and officials, representatives of federal and local government entities, strategic partners and a selection of representatives of Arab and foreign mass media.
Performance indicators for the years 2023–2025 showed that 357 awareness programmes were implemented, media messages reached more than 5.6 million beneficiaries, 328 family reports were received and 337 cases were contained within containment programmes, reflecting the wide scope of awareness and the effectiveness of preventive programmes.
The forum also reviewed the results of security efforts, as a result of which 3,160 websites promoting drugs were blocked, 3,632 cases were seized and quantities of narcotics and psychotropic substances were confiscated, which embodied the efficiency of proactive security work in pursuing smuggling and promotion networks, reducing the spread of drugs and drying up their sources.
The forum concluded its activities by honouring the partners and supporting entities in appreciation of their effective contributions in supporting national efforts.
