Abu Dhabi court rejects Dhs138,000 electronic fraud lawsuit over lack of proof

Abu Dhabi Court for Family, Civil and Administrative Cases rejected an electronic fraud lawsuit filed by a man against another, in which the plaintiff claimed that the appellee had seized Dhs138,525 from him via a fake link.

The court pleaded that the appellant did not provide sufficient documents to prove the fraud.

The details of the case date back to when the appellee allegedly seized the plaintiff's financial savings via a fake link by hacking his bank accounts, from which he reportedly withdrew Dhs138,525, which resulted in material and psychological damages to the plaintiff.

The crime and its consequences were proved in a criminal judgment by the Public Prosecution for Financial Crimes, which convicted the appellee and fined him Dhs3,000.

The plaintiff demanded that the appellee be obligated to return the amount, in addition to Dhs15,000 as compensation for damages incurred.

The case documents indicated that the plaintiff based his lawsuit on the criminal judgment, and did not prove any damage incurred by him, and only attached documents which included investigation and inquiry reports.

The court stated that the documents did not prove the value of the amount requested to be returned.
