The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) announced the commencement of work on the construction of a dual carriageway from Al Sarouj area to the industrial area at a total cost of Dhs291.11 million with the project scheduled for completion by the end of June 2027.
The project is part of DMT’s strategic plans aimed at developing the infrastructure and enhancing the flow of traffic in the city, which contributes to improving the quality of life and providing a safer and smoother transportation environment for the residents of the area.
According to Eng. Abdullah Hamdan Al Ameri, Executive Director of Al Ain Infrastructure Sector, the project came as part of DMT’s efforts to implement a new dual carriageway with a length of 3.2 kilometers in each direction, linking Al Masoud Interchange in the industrial area and the new intersection at Al Saqr Roundabout on Al Sarouj-Industrial Area Road.
The project contributes to improving traffic flow, reducing travel time and raising the level of traffic safety in light of urban growth and increasing traffic density in the area, over and above supporting sustainable development plans and improving the quality of life for the city’s residents, he said.
The works include the implementation of major intersections, the construction of a box culvert for rainwater drainage with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of the infrastructure to accommodate the increasing traffic density in the area and constructing a 120-meter-long tunnel that crosses Jabal Al-Naqfa according to the highest technical and engineering standards, he added.
As part of the project, integrated infrastructure works will be implemented including rainwater drainage networks, modern lighting systems, directional signs, a 5.2-km cycling route and 6-km pedestrian walkways, he said.
In addition, six side bus stops will be provided and 500 trees will be planted as part of urban beautification works with a view to creating a prominent urban landmark that enhances the aesthetic identity of the area region, improves the public landscape, supports traffic safety and achieves smoother traffic flow, he added.
