Sharjah Police, represented by the Directorate of Drug Prevention and Control, launched an awareness campaign to combat drugs with the aim of enhancing community awareness of the dangers of drugs and psychotropic substances, establishing a culture of prevention and protecting members of society, especially the youth, from this scourge.
The one-month campaign was launched in co-operation with the Security Media Department and strategic partners including Sharjah Islamic Bank and City Centre Al Zahia.
The campaign is aimed at supporting national efforts to combat drugs by intensifying awareness programmes and initiatives that contribute to raising awareness and strengthening the role of the family, educational institutions and society in early prevention.
The campaign includes a range of diverse awareness activities and events for disseminating awareness messages through social media platforms, organizing educational programmes for all segments of society, distributing awareness publications to promote positive behaviour and consolidating the concept of social responsibility and societal rejection of drugs.
Apart from the security aspect, dealing with drug cases covers the preventive, humanitarian and therapeutic aspects and the main goal is to protect, save and support people to return to a safe and stable life, Sharjah Police said, calling on everyone who needs advice, assistance or treatment to call 8004654.
The competent authorities deal with cases with complete confidentiality and great care and work to provide the necessary support, reintegrate recovering addicts and reduce relapse, they added.
Sharjah Police call on members of the society to interact with the campaign’s programmes and benefit from its awareness messages as part of their ongoing efforts to implement preventive initiatives and community programs that contribute to protecting the youth, enhancing security and stability and hence building a conscious society free of drugs.
