Department of Awqaf in Sharjah has completed the reconstruction project of Umm Al Tarafa endowment, in line with the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member Ruler of Sharjah, to preserve, develop, and sustain endowments, and as part of the reconstruction plan launched by the Department in 2011 to ensure the continuity of endowments.
The project is one of the most prominent reconstruction projects implemented by the Department in its endeavour to revive dilapidated and idle endowments, and to take all necessary measures to protect and preserve them and look after their interests, thereby achieving financial sustainability for the endowment and enhancing its contribution to community service.
The project culminated the efforts of the Department in reconstructing the existing endowment at the site, which was an old endowment market comprising a number of commercial shops.
It was developed and transformed into an integrated residential and commercial project built on a land area of 1,852.9 square metres, and includes 140 residential apartments, 9 commercial stores, and 141 parking spaces, distributed over a ground floor, two parking floors, and 10 recurring residential floors, thereby enhancing the efficiency of endowment investment and increasing its sustainable returns.
Talib Al Marri, Director General of the Department of Awqaf, affirmed that the project embodies the Department's direction towards reconstructing and developing endowments according to sustainable investment visions which contribute to enhancing endowment resources and achieving its objectives.
He added: Umm Al Tarafa endowment project represents a practical model of the Department's efforts in reconstructing and developing endowments in a manner consistent with urban and economic changes, and reflects its keenness to preserve endowment assets and maximise their returns to achieve sustainable benefit for the endowment and serve the community.
