A Nepalese army soldier named Hari Chandra Giri set a new Guinness World Record after successfully descending 100 stairs on his hands in 44.71 seconds in Yunyang, Chongqing Province, China.
Giri said that he performed the challenge on a very steep staircase, in what he described as the most dangerous attempt in his athletic career, due to the possibility of a direct fall on the head or spine.
The goal of the attempt, he indicated, was to prove that handstands can be transformed into a precise and fast skill in real-world environments.
I underwent rigorous training for six months, which included strengthening my wrists and core muscles and practising on wet and dry stairs to ensure stability, he added. I also faced organisational and linguistic difficulties in China, where there was a lack of translation and poor internet connectivity, Giri said.
It is worth noting that Giri had previously set other records, including descending 50 stairs on his hands in 12.65 seconds, covering 10 metres with a football between his legs in 4.49 seconds, and 50 metres in 25.58 seconds.
