The program “Direct Line” has revealed a change in the official designations of several areas in the Emirate of Sharjah. The localities of Al Bataeh, Al Hamriyah, Al Madam, and Mleiha will now be formally classified as cities.
Under the new administrative naming structure, these areas will adopt city status alongside Sharjah’s well-known urban centers such as Sharjah City, Kalba, Khor Fakkan, and Al Dhaid.
The move reflects an administrative update aimed at strengthening urban identity and improving governance frameworks across the emirate. By upgrading these areas to city status, authorities are likely seeking to support long-term development planning, enhance municipal services, and better align each locality with its growing population and infrastructure needs.
The change also highlights Sharjah’s continued expansion and its strategy of developing both coastal and inland regions in a more balanced way, ensuring that emerging communities receive recognition and resources comparable to established cities.
