Jebel Deem products were displayed for sale for the first time at Al Jubail Market in Kalba, on Saturday morning, in the presence of a number of officials and residents of the area, according to Dr Ahmed Saeed Al Mazrouei, Director of Kalba City Municipality.
Al Mazrouei explained that this step comes in line with the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, aimed at supporting local products and empowering projects which reflect the city’s environmental and agricultural identity, and enhancing the utilisation of local resources.
The process included offering a number of Jebel Deem products, including grapes and pickled olives, as the fruit of an ambitious agricultural project which has become a tangible reality, amidst remarkable demand from market visitors and residents of the area, Al Mazrouei added, emphasising the importance of this step in supporting local products and enhancing the agricultural identity of the region.
He also pointed to the trend towards greater diversity in production during the coming period, which contributes to expanding the range of local products and enhancing their presence in the markets.
Jebel Deem project receives close follow-up from the Initiatives Implementation Authority in the Emirate of Sharjah in cooperation with Kalba City Municipality, and embodies a model for sustainable development projects which enhance the utilisation of natural resources and support the local agricultural sector, Al Mazrouei affirmed.
Sheikh Sultan has clarified that the Jebel Deem project is part of a broader initiative to provide food security for the entire United Arab Emirates, as the area is dedicated to fruit cultivation.
He also announced the construction of a new road that will traverse the peaks and slopes of the mountains and descend into Khorfakkan.
The Ruler of Sharjah described it as a marvel unlike anything seen before.
