Sharjah Municipality announced the completion of the Green Belt Ladies Park’s walkway, opening it to the public for walking and jogging from Monday.
This followed the completion of all necessary works including the installation of a rubberized walking path, environmentally friendly lighting and landscaping around the walkway, providing the public with an ideal environment for exercise in a pleasant atmosphere.
The project is part of a package of infrastructure projects concurrently being carried out with the aim of improving infrastructure efficiency and service quality in Sharjah.
The walkway was implemented with a length of 1.8 kilometers around the perimeter of the park in line with approved international specifications that provided the highest levels of safety and comfort for its users, said Eng. Hassan Abdul Razzaq, Director of Projects and Facilities Maintenance.
He pointed out that a set of technical standards were adopted during implementation including the conformity of the materials used to international specifications and standards and provision of sufficient flexibility to ensure ease of movement, noting that the walkway was designed in a way not to be affected by discoloration due to weather conditions or frequent use.
The municipality will provide seating for the public along with environmentally friendly lighting poles that offer clear visibility for those exercising at night, he said, adding that the walkway would also be planted with various types of plants that promote relaxation and happiness, creating a distinctive recreational and sporting environment for its users.
This reflects the municipality’s commitment to expanding recreational and sports infrastructure projects and providing comprehensive facilities that meet the needs of residents and visitors, he said, adding that the walkway represented a valuable addition to the city’s public amenities and contributed to raising the level of services provided to the public.
The municipality is working within its annual plans to implement recreational infrastructure projects that serve a wide segment of the public with the aim of providing spaces that promote comfort, happiness and positivity, support community cohesion and encourage the practice of sports in a way that contributes to promoting the health of people and society, he said.
