Sharjah Public Libraries (SPL) will host 24 cultural and community events across the emirate this June, bringing together literature, science, entrepreneurship, heritage and the arts through collaborations with six cultural, educational and community partners.
Held across Sharjah’s libraries and cultural spaces, the programme offers interactive experiences for all age groups, from children and young adults to families and senior citizens.
SPL’s adult programme features literary discussions, author talks and community-focused cultural evenings across the emirate’s libraries. At Al Dhaid Public Library, readers can explore the social and human themes of “The Necklace and the Bracelet” on June 1 at 11 am as part of the “Book Question” series.
Meanwhile, Khorfakkan Public Library will host a discussion on “Education in the Age of Distraction: The Discourse of Idea and Stance” on June 11 at 5 pm, featuring author Sheikha Alyazia bint Nahyan in collaboration with Arab Readers Forum.
On June 18 at 10am, Dibba Al Hisn Library will present “Not the End,” while Kalba Public Library hosts a signing event for “The impact of Social Media and the Dynamics of Family Dialogue” in collaboration with Dar Qissa and author Mira Al Ali at the same time.
The programme also includes “Story Kitchen: A Flavour from Every Home” at SPL’s main branch on June 21 at 4 pm.
At Kalba Public Library, children can explore space and life beyond Earth during the “A Future Without Gravity” workshop on June 2 at 10 am.
Meanwhile, SPL’s main branch will host the English-language event “A Letter from Hogwarts” on June 4 at 10 am, inviting children into an interactive storytelling experience inspired by the world of Harry Potter.
On June 9 at 9 am, Wadi Al Hilo Library will present “Sustainable Creativity,” introducing children to sustainability through hands-on artistic activities using alternative materials, while Al Dhaid Public Library hosts the “Wax Painting” workshop exploring innovative art techniques using colour and wax.
In collaboration with Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology, Dibba Al Hisn Library will host “Galaxy Journey” on June 14 at 5 pm, offering children an interactive exploration of space, planets and stars.
Later that evening at 7 pm, Al Dhaid Public Library will present “Myth or Reality?”, encouraging children to distinguish between factual and fictional stories through discussion and storytelling activities.
The programme also includes “The Story of a Trip to the Sea” at Wadi Al Hilo Library on June 25 at 10 am, promoting safe summer habits and awareness around visiting the sea, alongside “A Melody Between the Lines” at Khorfakkan Public Library in collaboration with SMSM World, on June 28 at 5 pm, a musical children’s event combining rhythm, reading and imagination.
Khorfakkan Public Library will launch the “Reading Point” initiative on June 3 at 9 am to encourage greater community participation in library programmes and services.
On June 8 at 9am, Dibba Al Hisn Library will organise “Ancestors’ Fingerprint” at the Social Services Department, celebrating intergenerational connection and cultural identity through interactive community activities.
Meanwhile, SPL’s main branch will present “Memory of the Nation” on June 10 at 10 am, bringing together senior citizens and students to exchange stories and memories in support of oral heritage preservation and stronger ties between generations.
The programme also features the poetry evening “Breezes of Poetry” at Wadi Al Hilo Library on June 15 at 6 pm, alongside “Brand Engineer” at Khorfakkan Public Library on June 16 at 10 am in collaboration with Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre (Sheraa), introducing participants to innovative brand-building skills.
In partnership with Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, Al Dhaid Public Library will host “Happy Planet” on June 24 at 10am, an interactive environmental workshop for children focused on nature conservation and ecological awareness. Meanwhile, Kalba Public Library will present “Hidden Sand Spectra” on June 22 at 4 pm, inviting young participants to create artistic works using coloured sand.
SPL’s youth-focused programme explores digital culture, creativity and wellbeing through interactive workshops designed for teenagers and young adults.
