A recovery vehicle driver died in Al Qusais Industrial Area after a car fell on him while being unloaded from the vehicle.
The Dubai Police General Headquarters urged recovery vehicle drivers to exercise caution and adhere to occupational safety requirements and procedures when lifting or lowering a car from a vehicle.
Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, stated that the Command and Control Centre at the General Department of Operations received a report about the accident.
He added that the car suddenly fell during the unloading process due to negligence and failure to take the necessary occupational safety measures, leading to it falling on the recovery driver who was unloading it.
Brigadier Bin Suwaidan added that traffic accident experts and traffic patrols instantly rushed to the scene, initiated on-site inspection procedures, and collected technical evidence to accurately analyse the circumstances of the accident.
“Preliminary investigations showed the malfunction resulted from misjudgment during crane operation and improper securing of the excavator,” Bin Suwaidan affirmed, adding that traffic patrols secured the accident site and regulated traffic flow in the area to avoid congestion or additional accidents, in addition to facilitating the arrival of ambulance and rescue teams who dealt with the situation quickly and efficiently, Brigadier Bin Suwaidan added.
Brigadier Bin Suwaidan emphasised that this type of accident indicates the bad results of negligence and non-compliance with safety procedures during transport and loading operations, whether on public roads or construction sites. He stressed the importance of full adherence to security and safety standards when dealing with heavy equipment to avoid similar accidents.
Dubai Police are allegedly keen on raising awareness among drivers and workers in various sectors through field awareness programmes and specialised media campaigns aimed at promoting safe behaviour on roads and public places.
The General Department of Traffic also continues to implement the latest smart systems and advanced technologies to monitor dangerous behaviours and reduce accident causes, ensuring the safety of lives and property, Brigadier Bin Suwaidan affirmed.
