Under the guidance of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, substantial progress has been achieved on the "Middle Line for Stormwater and Groundwater Drainage" project in Sharjah. With a budget of Dhs500 million, this initiative stands as one of the most significant strategic projects approved for 2024.
Ali Bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Sharjah Public Works Department, shared updates on the project with "Direct Line." He confirmed that considerable advancements have been made, emphasising that the allocated budget of Dhs500 million has already been exceeded. The project aims to address critical drainage infrastructure needs in the emirate.
He further explained that the line begins at a depth of 13 metres and extends to over 20 metres, covering 22 areas within Sharjah in its initial phase.
Plans are in place to expand its reach to 42 areas, including Muwailih, at later stages.
The completion date for the entire project is set for February 2027.
Among the primary roads it will support are King Abdulaziz Street, the extension of Al Wahda leading to Culture Square, King Faisal Street, and the Corniche-Majaz 2. Additionally, several secondary roads connected to these main thoroughfares will benefit from the project. In total, the network will span a length of 16 kilometres.
