Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub (SSAH), affiliated with the University of Sharjah, announced the results of the astronomical calculations for the sighting of the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH, indicating that Wednesday, May 27, 2026, will be astronomically the first day of Eid Al Adha.
SSAH explained in its report that the Day of Arafah on 9 of Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH would fall on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, while Monday, May 18, 2026 is expected to be the first day of Dhul Hijjah.
According to astronomical calculations, the crescent moon will be visible at 00:17 on Sunday, May 17, 2026 (29 Dhul Al Qi'dah 1447 AH) UAE time. The crescent moon will be 18 hours and 39 minutes old at sunset on the same day, with a duration of 57 minutes, which is sufficient time to see it with the naked eye if the atmosphere is clear.
Dr. Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Director of SSAH, stated that SSAH provided the UAE Council for Fatwa with this scientific data in support of its efforts in observing the crescent moon and making Sharia decisions based on the integration of scientific data and Sharia laws.
SSAH concluded its statement by affirming that these calculations fall within the scientific and astronomical framework, stressing that the official announcement of the beginnings of the Hijri months and religious occasions remains the prerogative of the competent official and legitimate authorities in the country.
