In a move aimed at strengthening cooperation in education, research, and innovation, the University of Sharjah (UoS) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Alserkal Group. The agreement seeks to deepen collaboration across education, training, scientific research, and innovation, contributing to sustainable development and serving both the community and the national economy.
The MoU was signed on behalf of the University by Dr. Salah Taher Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, and on behalf of the Alserkal Group by Nasser Bin Ahmed Bin Isa Alserkal, Chief Executive Officer of Envirol and board member. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Maher Al Kaabi, adviser to the chairman of the Alserkal Group and independent board member, along with several officials from both sides.
The memorandum sets out an ambitious framework for strategic partnership between the two parties. It includes the development of joint training programmes and the provision of internship opportunities for UoS students within Alserkal Group companies. It also supports collaborative applied research projects designed to foster innovation and respond to the evolving needs of the labor market.
Cooperation between the two parties will further extend to organising conferences, seminars, and workshops, as well as participating in community initiatives and exhibitions. The agreement also supports student graduation projects and graduate research, while encouraging student-led innovation through funding and advisory support. In the field of sustainability, both sides will work together on environmental awareness programs in partnership with Envirol, alongside launching community and cultural initiatives aimed at enriching the arts and broader cultural life.
Both parties stressed that the agreement marks an important step towards deepening ties between academic institutions and the private sector. They stressed that it would help accelerate the exchange of knowledge and expertise, while supporting the UAE’s wider drive for comprehensive and sustainable development.
