The Sharjah Misdemeanor Court has ordered the deportation of an Arab national in place of a two-year prison sentence after he was convicted of stealing multiple air conditioning units from a villa under construction. The case was initiated by a report from the victim, also an Arab, who detailed the theft. Following the report, Sharjah Police managed to arrest one suspect, while the other remains unidentified and at large.
The incident dates back to the time when authorities were informed of missing air conditioning units from the construction site. In response, investigation teams quickly gathered evidence, which led to the identification and arrest of the first suspect. The second suspect has since been identified but has yet to be captured as legal efforts continue to locate him.
During his trial, the first suspect faced charges of theft and unlawful entry. However, he denied any wrongdoing, stating that he had been searching for employment on social media when he was contacted by the second suspect. According to the defendant, he was asked to assist in moving the air conditioning units from the villa to a vehicle, unaware that they were stolen property. After thoroughly examining the evidence, including witness statements and investigative reports, the court concluded that deportation was a more appropriate penalty than imprisonment. Meanwhile, the second suspect has been sentenced in absentia, with additional legal measures in place to ensure his eventual capture.
