Hadi Badri, CEO of the Dubai Economic Development Corporation, said that foreign direct investment (FDI) has been a key driver behind Dubai’s success, noting that the emirate has ranked first globally in attracting FDI for four consecutive years. He added that FDI capital grew by 50 per cent over the past year.
Speaking at the Semaphore Global Economic Conference in Washington, Badri said the United States remains the largest investor in Dubai, with 60 per cent of its investments linked to mergers and acquisitions. He noted that he held a series of meetings with investors during the week.
Badri stressed that investors remain confident in Dubai’s government and continue to show strong interest in opportunities across real estate, stock markets and M&A deals.
He revealed that Dubai is set to sign several deals with US partners this quarter, adding that he recently held a productive call with his team to finalise one such agreement.
He emphasised that investor commitment remains strong for 2026 and 2027, even if some deals are delayed. “If deals are not completed in April, they may happen in June, and if not in June, then in September,” he said, noting positive outlooks ahead.
On population trends, Badri said residents have largely remained in Dubai despite external reports suggesting otherwise. “If one out of eight people from a certain nationality left, seven remained,” he said.
He added that life and work continued uninterrupted, with the government, private sector and individuals maintaining daily operations.
Dubai a city of builders
Badri described Dubai as a “city of builders,” pointing to its skyline as evidence of ongoing growth.
He noted that around 500,000 Iranians continue to live and contribute to Dubai’s economy safely.
“Our priority is ensuring the safety of all — residents and tourists alike,” he said, adding that authorities will continue to support and engage with the community.
He also highlighted that Emirati citizens make up around 10 per cent of the population, stressing inclusivity. “We consider everyone Emirati,” he said, adding that Dubai’s diverse population of over 200 nationalities continues to live in harmony and contribute to its success.
